Settlement of Ataa

A former settlement in western Greenland, Ataa is known for its role in the film "Smilla's Sense of Snow."

Ataa, once a settlement in the Disko Bay region of western Greenland, is located about 60 km north of Ilulissat. Abandoned around 1960, it gained fame as the backdrop for the 1997 Danish film "Smilla's Sense of Snow." Presently, there are plans to establish a lodge in Ataa, featuring 20 cabins, while repurposing the remaining buildings for a reception and restaurant.
