Quassussuaq/Lille Malene

Quassussuaq/Lille Malene

One of the most popular walking paths in Nuuk, yet you feel alone in the wilderness as soon as you leave te edge of town!
You can start your trip around Quassussuaq in two places that can easily be reached by bus from the city center. Take the bus to Nuuk Airport or Nuuk’s newest suburb, Qinngorput. Whichever way you go is purely a matter of taste. For this description, we have chosen to get on the bus to Qinngorput. Get off the bus at the first larger roundabout in Qinngorput. While the bus continues downwards, you turn left and walk uphill towards the valley between the mountains. At first, you arrive at Circus Lake, which got its name from the shape of one of the mountainsides at its shore. At the end of the lake, you get to a small waterfall. Walk up on the hill just next to it. Now, walk along Quassussuaq/Lille Malene’s base. The mountain is on your left-hand side, and you will pass a few small lakes. After a short walk through the valley between the mountains, you begin to view Nuuk Fjord ahead of you. When approaching the fjord, you continue around the mountain. Walk right above an area with the beautiful name “Paradise Valley.” This amazing view soon gets replaced by the view of our only prison. Don’t worry about the route: Your walking path is clearly marked. At the end, you reach the airport road. You now have two options: Walk to the airport and go home by cab or bus – or continue straight ahead to Nuuk City.
