This solemn place was used by older people as a place to leave this life during famines.

When visiting the old settlement Sermermiut near Ilulissat, you can also reach Nakkaavik, from where you´ll have a great view. The name translates to "the place where you fall", but you do not have to worry. It refers to a time, where the eldery would sacrifice themselves during times of famine, so the young people would have enough food to survive and feed new generations.
