Ikka

Ikka

The ghostlike and near-magical columns of Ikka don't go anywhere. Scientists already tried moving a few and that was a bad idea.
Ikaite is a mineral named after the place Ikka near Arsuk and Ivittuut (it was spelled Ika before, hence the spelling of the mineral). The Danish mineralogist Hans Pauly found the mineral in the Ikka fjord. Here, up to 18-meter-tall ikaite towers occur like ghosts underneath the water's surface. The columns cannot be moved. They simply dissolve when removed from the water in the fjord.
