Kangeq/Haaabet's Ø

Abandoned settlement which was the original site og Hans Egede's colony when he came to Greenland in 1721
Kangeq, also known as Haaabet's Ø, is a captivating location nestled in the pristine wilderness of Greenland. This remote settlement, situated on an island off the country's southwestern coast near Nuuk, offers visitors a unique and awe-inspiring experience. It was the original location of the colony Godthåb when Hans Egede came here in 1721 with his wife and crew. Seven years later, and after losing a lot of the people, the colony was moved to the current location of Nuuk, and was called Godthåb (Good Hope). The much-loved Greenlandic artist Aron was born and lived here, and to this day we call him Aron from Kangeq.
