In 1408, a wedding mentioned in the Icelandic Sagas occurred here at Hvalsey. It was the last written testimonial to the Greenlandic Norse for centuries.

The Hvalsey Church Ruin, known in Greenlandic as Qaqortukulooq, is the best-preserved Norse structure. You will find Hvalsey Church Ruin close to Qaqortoq. In 1408, a wedding occurred here, mentioned in the Icelandic Sagas. It turned out that this was the last mention of the Greenlandic Norse people in the Sagas. However, within that same century, the last Norse had died or emigrated as life in Greenland became a lot colder during the late ice age.
