Sermermiut
A historic Inuit settlement, Sermermiut offers a glimpse into the past with its rich cultural significance and stunning natural beauty.
From Ilulissat you can go on many exciting hikes, one of which leads to the former Inuit settlement of Sermermiut. Located on the north side of the Ilullisat Ice Ford, you can travel 4.000 years back in time and walk in the footsteps of the Inuit people. The area has a large and varied animal and marine life, and it has always had great potential for hunting due to its location right next to the Ice Fjord. Sermermiut was excavated in 1952 and 1983, which revealed evidence of many different cultures. Besides the cultural importance of Sermermiut, it has a natural beauty that everyone should experience at least once. Walking from Ilulissat to Sermermiut is easy, and on the way there you´ll be surrounded by icebergs. You can hike with some friends, or you can join a guided tour.
