Hike to Sermermiut
Explore an abandoned settlement in Greenland, offering insight into Inuit culture and history. A tour guide is recommended for a more enriching experience.
The hike to the abandoned settlement of Sermermiut offers a unique opportunity to explore the ancient Inuit culture and history. Located one and a half kilometers south of Ilulissat, the settlement was inhabited for 4,000 years and has served as a hunting ground for the Inuit. Although covered in snow in winter, the area provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives and customs of the Inuit before and even after the arrival of Europeans. The hike also includes visiting the viewpoint at Nakkavik/Old Women's Gorge. While it is possible to do the hike independently, having a tour guide is recommended for a more enriching experience and to discover sites of historical interest.
