Whale watching viewpoint
Whales can be found in Disko Bay, particularly around Ilulissat Ice Fjord and Qeqertarsuaq. Common species include humpback, minke, fin, and bowhead whales.
You can experience several whale species in Disko Bay, and you will have excellent chances of seeing them up close by going on a whale safari. Many of the whales will swim close to land, and they thrive in large parts of the Disko Bay area. In the summer, you are sure to find them around the Ilulissat Ice Fjord and Qeqertarsuaq. The most common whales to make the waters around Ilulissat their home during summer include humpback whales, minke whales, fin whales, and bowhead whales. The humpback whale is especially easy to recognize, with its humped fin and white back on the tail when it dives. Despite its grand size, the humpback whale is able to throw itself out of the water and turn its tail and fins, making it a wonderful sight to behold for anyone watching.
