Sermeq Kujalleq Glacier
A massive glacier in a natural wonder near Ilulissat produces 10% of all icebergs in Greenland and is the fastest moving glacier in the northern hemisphere.
The Ilulissat Ice Fjord is a natural wonder located near the town of Ilulissat. The fjord is known for its towering icebergs, which are some of the largest in the world. In fact, the icebergs in the Ilulissat Ice Fjord are so impressive that they were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. Visitors to the Ilulissat Ice Fjord can witness the beauty of the icebergs up close by boat or from the vantage point of a nearby hiking trail. The experience is truly unforgettable, with the icebergs shining in a myriad of colors as the sun reflects off them. At the base of the Icefjord, you´ll find the massive glacier, Sermeq Kujalleq. It produces 10% of all icebergs in Greenland, and it is the fastest moving glacier in the northern hemisphere, traveling approximately 40 meters per day. While other glaciers may move faster for short periods, Sermeq Kujalleq maintains its pace continuously.
