South Greenland
Narsaq Town
Narsaq sits on large plains below tall green mountains, surrounded by blue ice-filled fjords. It is the only farming town in Greenland and is considered one of the three most beautiful towns!
Narsaq lies at the center of a huge fjord system at the foot of the 685-meter-high Qaqqarsuaq Mountain. Narsaq means the plain and is one of the flatter towns in Greenland, making it ideal for farming. Narsaq is located on the southern tip of the Narsaq Peninsula, also known as the Ilimaussaq intrusive complex, rich in rare metals.
Like other towns in Greenland, Narsaq is heavily dependent on fishing, but it is the only town in Greenland that can call itself an agricultural town.
Narsaq experiences quite warm summers. Shorts and T-shirts are frequently seen in the streets during summer. Narsaq does not provide many organized tourist trips, but its amazing backcountry makes it ideal for individual travelers. Beautiful mountain trails (originally made by the local sheep) overlook breathtaking vistas of icebergs in the fjord, clean rivers teem with fish, and several Norse ruins are found in the Narsaq valleys.
