A beautiful white church, Narsaq Church is one of the only churches in the Arctic designed by an Inuit!
A beautiful white church, Narsaq Church is one of the only in the Arctic designed by an Inuit!
Pavia Høegh, a Greenlandic carpenter from Qaqortoq, designed the church, unlike most churches in Greenland, which were created in Denmark.
Narsaq Church was built in 1926-27, and in 1981, Narsaq Church was enlarged by prolonging it.
Usually, enlargements are accomplished by constructing an appendix to the existing structure, but Narsaq Church was divided in two and prolonged instead. The outside of the church is held in white and red colors, while the inner church is mainly blue and yellow. The foundation of Narsaq Church is made from the rare and unique Igaliku Stones.
