A visit to this beautiful ice fjord close to Narsarsuaq harbor is a must!

Qooroq Ice Fjord lies between *Narsarsuaq and Igaliku, producing up to 200,000 tons of icebergs daily. A lot of this ice is the so-called blue ice.

The ice in South Greenland is older than the ice you encounter further up in Greenland. That's why it's blue.

Blue ice is older than white ice and looks blue as it is more compressed. So you are going to see much blue ice in South Greenland. The ice has been traveling longer within the Greenland Ice Sheet on its way to the Southern glaciers by the edge of the Ice Sheet, so the ice in South Greenland is also very often older than the ice you encounter further up in Greenland.

It is possible to get to Qooroq Ice Fjord on boat trips from Narsarsuaq, but there is also a popular vantage point that can be reached by foot from Igaliku.
